Different Types Of Insulin?
I was wondering if there was an Insulin that like Lantus lasts for 24 hours but also has a peak period unlike Lantus which does not. So does anyone know if there is this type of Insulin and if so please give me the brands and names of any information you may have. Thanks everyone for your help it`s much appreciated.....Nan...xo.
There was/is two formulations of NPH (which is just the initials of some dude that created the stuff).
The original was long acting (animal sourced - cows) and still available in Canada (but have to ask specifically) then they changed to an intermediate, still NPH but sold as Humulin N - lab grown human insulin - 12-18 hour total life.
So for the long acting version the Doc has to specify NPH and not Humulin
My Dad used the original NPH for a few years before switching over to the 70/30 Humulin
I use Toujeo its almost like Tresiba this one u inject every 24 hours. I have severe low sugar readings like 1.2 daily and with the Toujeo and Apidra on a Sliding Scale it helps me a lot. Was on Tresiba but it didnt help me much. But speak to your doctor and find out if this would work for you. Have heard about Insulin you only use once a few days but cant remember the name at this stage
@A DiabetesTeam Member you may want to take a look at a very "old" insulin called NPH which used to be the only Basal until a couple decades back.
Onset is 1 to 3 hours, lasts a total of 24, peaks at 6 to 8 hours.
But, it is also the long acting "most likely" to induce a low. Lantus et al were (engineered) to make them safer.
As far as i know,no long term insulin has a peak, but will do some investigation.
Lantus Vs The Other Long Lasting Insulins
I Take Humalog But My Insurance Doesn't Use Humalog They Use Novolog How Does Novolog Compare To Humalog?
Something NEW For Basil Insulin Users??? Wouldn't It Be Nice If Your "nightly Insulin Injection" Was Only Required "Once A Week"??
