Is A LCHF (Low Carb High Fat) Diet Good For Diabetics?

A DiabetesTeam Member asked a question 💭
Inverary, ON

Ah, a topic mined from another discussion 😁

Eat Lower Fat is the current Health Mantra but they fail to tell us "why"

The why is because we eat too much of everything as a society and since Fat packs over double the number of calories found in proteins and carbs (on a gram for gram basis), if we are going to "over eat" they are trying to convince us to overeat "less calories"

Of course not all Dietary Fats are equal - Trans Fats will kill you as will Saturated Fats from Red Meat if you… read more

Did Anybody Know That Today, 17 May Is World Hypertension Day????

A DiabetesTeam Member asked a question 💭
Inverary, ON

I didn't - must be slipping up

Most of us aren't simply Diabetic (or a person with diabetes if you prefer) but rather we have Metabolic Syndrome

That is any 2 of:

Type 2 Diabetes
Hypertension
High Cholesterol
High Triglycerides
BMI Greater than 30

And just about ALL of US had at least two on that list when we got the Membership Card to the Dead Pancreas Society

So that means a good number of us, myself included, have/had/are currently taking meds for Hypertension in the form of ACE… read more

If Jeopardy Had A Diabetes Category, What Would Some Of The Answers Be?

A DiabetesTeam Member asked a question 💭
Inverary, ON

Today I have decided to put together a jumble of facts about diabetes mostly for entertainment purposes – mostly useless trivia.

These will primarily be statistics so you can see how you measure up.

45% - the percentage of Diabetics that have an A1C “above” 7.0

This one surprised me a little given all the new drugs on the market and their availability – sounds a touch high to me since it is almost 1 out 2 that are essentially “not controlled”

537 Million – the number of “diagnosed”… read more

What To Do If I Can't Afford The Diabetes Meds Prescribed?

A DiabetesTeam Member asked a question 💭
Inverary, ON

Generics were mentioned in another discussion so I am going to do a piece on what is available out there if you just can't afford that great new med that does everything including make your morning coffee for you

I may get a little long here, so may be a part 2 or 3 to this

I also will not get into a discussion about greed or why drugs cost so much in the first place. That may be a discussion that needs to be had but that won't help "today" if you can't afford the cost of or the copay even if… read more

Where Does Everybody Disappear To?

A DiabetesTeam Member asked a question 💭
Inverary, ON

After some of the discussion that has been going on the past week or so where others have "purged" their teams of members that clearly are no longer participating in the group, I figured it was time to do the same

I have been here for a while and at times I can be a prolific poster (is that the correct word?) and I had collected hundreds of team members - over 700 actually

So just like my house cleaning technique, I got "Brutal"

Anyone that hasn't been on-line in the group in 2024 got the axe
