Wound Healing and Diabetes

Posted on May 25, 2018

Diabetes may cause cuts or injuries to heal more slowly than in other people. Sometimes what can start as a small annoyance can grow into a serious problem. It's important to learn from others who have been there how to manage cuts and injuries and avoid infection.

On DiabetesTeam, the social network and online support group for those living with type 2 diabetes, members talk about a range of personal experiences and struggles. Wound healing is one of the most discussed subjects.

Here are some question-and-answer threads about wound healing:

I just noticed a cut or sore on the bottom of my foot. My first since being diagnosed. What should I do?

Has anyone on here had a toe amputated due to a diabetic wound that would not heal?

Does anyone have a good idea for a foot ulcer that won’t seem to heal?

Here are some conversations about wound healing:

I had my aortic valve replaced in September and developed 4 bugs in my wound. One was E.coli.

Just some advice keep a close eye on feet. I had a bone infection, and it all started with a little blister.

I am still dealing with the cut on the bottom of my left foot. It's now a pretty good size hole in my foot.

Can you relate?
