Overview
Farxiga is a prescription drug approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to help improve blood glucose control in adults with type 2 diabetes. Farxiga is considered an adjunct treatment to diet and exercise. Farxiga is also referred to by its drug name, Dapagliflozin.

Farxiga is a sodium-glucose transporter 2 (SGLT2). Farxiga is believed to work by causing excess glucose to be eliminated in the urine.

How do I take it?
Prescribing information states that Farxiga is generally taken once daily in the morning, with or without food.

Farxiga comes in tablet form.

Side effects
The FDA-approved label for Farxiga lists common side effects including changes in urination, cold symptoms, urinary tract infections, and yeast infections of the vagina or the skin around the penis.

Rare but serious side effects listed for Farxiga include hypoglycemia (low blood glucose), kidney problems, and higher cholesterol levels.
