Statins can cause a rise in blood sugar levels. It doesn't happen to everyone but there is a risk. The drugs are linked to an increase in type 2 diabetes risk. Lyrica is also reported to increase blood glucose but also rare - happens in less than 2% of people according to some studies. Worth speaking to your doc about it.

Crestor made me hurt all over, I was walking round like an old woman, well I am an old woman but not yet reduced to hobbling, thank goodness. Was gasping for breath too, it got worse and worse so I stopped taking them. Dr. now has me on another statin, only taken one tablet so not sure what will happen.

I eat what ever I want. Coffee does not affect my numbers. I only use non fat half and half in it. Found I just have to watch the numbers. (not just the carbs and protein but calories fat etc as well) Watch the portions. Have to just know what foods don't work together. I have been very successful in getting the weight off doing this alone. I am not very active because of Arthritis and Neuropathy and get very little exercise/activity.

I know that steroids and lasix can cause them to go up.

@ Maureen . I have every confidence in my GP. If I/net or elsewhere tells me different to his advice, I discuss it with him , next visit and follow his advice. I think that there are not many GPs au fait with Diabetes Type 2. My GP has referred me to experts. ( in Podiatry particularly ).
