I Am Having A Terrible Time Eating Too Many Carbs. It’s Like I Have No Willpower With Certain Foods.

I love bread...bagels, english muffins, biscuits...you name it. I can’t stop buying it as there are others in my household. There are other carb heavy foods that I like, but that I eat in moderation. Everything except bread. What should I do?

Number one you have to take control of what you put in your mouth. When I think about amputation, dialysis, heart disease, neuropathy, blindness etc. it causes me to rethink before I put in my mouth. I had to learn portion control and what's going to cause a spike in my BS. I'm still learning and will forever learning. I have a family as well and if I don't buy it, then I can't eat it. I made up my mind, there's only one person responsible for what I drink and what I eat and that is the person looking back at me in the mirror. Diabetes can be controlled and it does not have to control you.

Sorry to say but it's all up to you. I am Italian, carbs are my life. When I want spaghetti I have one or two tablespoons not a whole plate. If I want pizza I eat the cheese and the sauce and the toppings and not the dough. When you get a hamburger throw the bun away at least throw the top bun away and only have the bottom bun. There are things you can do to cut out carbs at least cut them in half. You will find this makes it easier and as you go you can cut out carbs even more. Good luck!

I am still new and working on changing my own intake of carbs. Bread is a hard one for me as well - I never met a type of bread I didn't like! I have been limiting myself to only whole grain lower carb choices and not eating the yummy muffins, biscuits etc. If I am eating breakfast at a restaurant I only eat one piece of bread or a small amount of potatoes and leave the rest - that way I feel less deprived but don't totally blow my carb intake. Hope that helps! And remember we are all here for you!

Sometimes when you are told you cannot eat this or that you want it all the more. I love all foods but pick the ones that love me back now. Still
struggle when I see people all around you and on tv eating whatever they want and get very sad. I was diabetic for a while before finding out and had a lot of signs which some I blamed on blamed on old age. Blurry vision, gum disease, weight loss, balance issues, dry mouth, elevated kidney, cholesterol and beginning of neuropathy. My A1C was around 15. Got blood work and it went down to 7.8, 6.2 then 5.7. Having those signs told me this was no joke. Scared me into eating like the diabetic I am today. Moderation and portion size are key.
