Exercise

A DiabetesTeam Member asked a question 💭
Fort Worth, TX

Good morning fellow Diabetics. I really need to exercise, however, my right knee has bone on bone and I'm trying to avoid surgery.
Currently taking knee injections. Most exercise requires use of the knees. What do you think of swimming? Might have to join one that has a pool.

Water exercises put less stress on your joints it would probably feel good. You can also see if somewhere has a silver sneakers program. I have done silver sneakers yoga most movement is done from a chair and a few standing but you can hold onto a chair. Silver sneakers is geared for seniors but if you are younger they usually let you in.

swimming still involves the knee but certainly is much less stressful on the joints. I had bone on bone before my surgery so I understand your pain.

Try swimming at your local Y using a day pass to be sure it doesn't aggravate your knee pain. It it does there are Chair exercises you can do off you tube
that will help you get exercise in without the pain.

Swimming works. Anything that gets you to break a sweat for an hour or so is good. Although with swimming, it might be hard to tell. 😁
