Anyone Take 4 Medfomin A Day
@A DiabetesTeam Member how effective was that on improving your A1C.
I read a study done by Johns Hopkins and they found a maximum dose (4 tablets or 2000 mg daily) showed an average reduction of 1.5%.
Was wondering if you saw better results or it the Doc also adjusted/added other meds.
So you are probably close to a maximum dose.
Most doctors consider 2000 mgs (4 x 500 mg tablets) to be "the maximum" but some will treat up 2550 mgs because there is 850 mg tablets with 3 being the max dose according to the mfg.
Unfortunately when a max dose of Metformin is still not achieving "fasting target" (because that's what metformin treats, not after meal numbers) then the next step is almost always a Basil (long acting) Insulin.
I started out with 4 metformin a day but issues with my balance caused me to cut back to 3 a day, thinking about going back to 4 a day.
I take 4 tablets of metformin a day. Had a 5.7 a1c a month ago. I also take 2.5 mg of glipizide at night
That's excellent @A DiabetesTeam Member
That means you are "clinically" pre-diabetic.
You want to watch that - it could turn into Diabetes some day 😂
More seriously, doesn't it feel just great - a mental victory - when you work hard and get your A1C out of the Diabetes range.
You really kicked the "complications can" pretty far down the road with that number - well done.
Meformin
