Do You Wonder If Your Meter Is Giving You An Accurate Reading?

A DiabetesTeam Member asked a question 💭

There was a bit of discussion on Henry's call to arms post about an odd reading on a meter and what it might mean

If you test long enough occasionally you will see some of the common ones

Something to the effect of "blood drop too small" or the "replace batteries"

That latter one usually pops up after you have stuck yourself and got a good drop on the strip (wasting the strip in the process)

Some will have seen TOO HIGH or LOW - not the message you want to see unless it was because of some… read more

@A DiabetesTeam Member typically anytime after early March is fine - typically it's just Jan/Feb that we get whacked all the time with ice storms or the criss crossing between snow and freezing rain

The glucose meter I now use is the Freestyle Freedom Lite which I’ve found to be +/- 5.0 accurate.

So in answer to the question posed, relying on one’s glucose meter is paramount in playing the diabetic game. I DON’T like the game…but I choose to play; therefore, I’ve aligned myself with proper diabetic tools. (Possibly going to Dexcom 7 in near future…)

Good question senor…🦍

My most recent blood draw for fbg was 6.8..Freestyle Lite was 6.5..Dexcom 6 was 6.7..seems like everything working just fine..I calibrate my Dexcom every new sensor and compare it to my Freestyle..I'm insulin dependant Lada (type 1.5)

I concur and same answer as Joseph...Dexcom6 is the answer...I can enter my carb and insulin intake in my D6 receiver menu. I finger stick only to calibrate if I suspect my D6 meter reading from my skin sensors comes in too high; and is seldom that I do this. I find usually the margin of error is within 10pts and my finger stick usually comes in lower, then I can re-calibrate with my new BS number and adjust baseline BS in my D6 receiver meter and after I enter the new BS reading I am always relieved to see and set the accurate BS on my D6 receiver. I suggest all diabetics get Dexcom6 as it has taken the guessing game out of the diabetes equation. Any questions hit me back...!! Good luck and God bless all. Splender-ific morning...127BS.😀
