The two common (non-opioid) prescriptions are Pregabalin (Lyrica) and Gabapentin (Neurontin)

Both will dull the pain but neither actually treat the condition which will continue to get worse without exceptional blood sugar control

Then if you have access to a pain clinic (or specialist) they may find something that will work for you and their may be some "non-drug" options - typically an assessment by a vascular specialist might help

But if you can't take either of those (and assume over the counter stuff is of no value) then you may have to look at opioids - and that can be a whole truck load of problems in themselves so you must be careful and get sound medical advice

Hi, this is something I've been struggling with for a couple of years but only recently has it gotten really bad. At home I wear isotonic slippers with Dr Scholl's diabetic socks and it helps a lot. For outside I did a big google hunt asking the question (and yes, I'm an Adidas snob) "What line of Adidas provides the most relief for diabetic Neuropathy?" and ended up with their "Cloudfoam" line and those suckers, again in combination with the Dr Scholls socks, made the world of difference to my out of house travels, like night and day. However, if you're like me, the second you lay down for the night, the pain is just too much. I found that if I wore those sucks for the first hour I got enough relief to sometimes fall asleep and in the morning the pain would be gone at least till I got flowing through my day. Sometimes though it would still be enough to keep me awake and the pain after an hour would increase again and I'd have to take my socks off and then just put up with it until my eyes closed. Now VERY recently I was reading about a supplement in regards to another matter, and found about something called Beetroot suppliments (supposed to promote blood flow through the arteries and stuff like that, I was most concerned about claims to lower glucose levels). Researched that and ended on Beetroot Organic by Nutrali, I found it on Amazon.ca, most reasonably priced and best reviews. I figured, not likely but hell I'll try it. This might be just me, everybody's body and condition is different, but I'm going to bed without foot pain. Yes it still feels like I have a tensor bandage wrapped around my foot too tight even though my feet are bare, but pain gone. I think it's too soon to claim victory over the pain, could be just having a good couple of days, but my hopes are up. Oh, aside from that I take two extra strength Tylenol for body aches in the morning and same at supper time. Wishing you the best on your quest. Write anytime

Jim
