Good morning from South Jersey @A DiabetesTeam Member

1) The best thing you can do is eat to your meter and keep your before meal and after meal readings to TITR, 4.0(72) to 7.8(140).

This will arrest cumulative vascular damage from glucose spikes, right where it is. This will halt the progression of diabetic complications and comorbidities.

Your neuropathy will not get worse.

2) there are several treatments that can provide some relief.
Lyrica or similar medications can help.

My Bride uses gabapentin 2x a day. She uses Voltaren gel as needed. She does lidocaine adhesive patches too.

My Mom swore by Salonpas pads.

3) I had severe diabetic neuropathy pain in my feet for 6 months before I was diagnosed with diabetes in February 2021. I went on an ultralow carb right eating lifestyle. Within 3-4 months the pain eased and eventually subsided. I am truly blessed.

4) Baby steps. Do what you need to do. Don't just try. DO!
Start with one thing and keep doing it every. When you are ready do another and keep doing it every day. Soon you are on your way.

Good luck.
And never give up, never surrender, never ever.
You got this.
Have a wonderful day.

In order of preference:

Don't let it develop in the first place by keeping blood sugar controlled to near normal

Upon onset get your blood sugar under control and keep it there

Early stages rest feet often, elevated and soak them in hot water/Epsom salts - use walking exercises or those foot massage baths to try and improve blood flow to the lower extremities

When the pain starts bug your Doctor until they refer you to a Vascular Surgeon - the sooner you are accessed by one the less likely you end up at end stage with an amputation - yes, it's scary and nasty and you don't want to end up there, so get "serious" today

And, talk to the Doc about non-opioid pain meds - currently Pregabalin and Gabapentin (sold as generics or under the brand names Lyrica and Neurontin respectively) are the two most prescribed for neuropathy
