As a Type two, Can I eat fresh fruits in moderate quantities, or will it be harmfull. Are all fruit the same or are there some that are better to eat.
We are all different and our diabetes journeys are unique and at different stages. That being said @A DiabetesTeam Member,
I eat to my meter, my numbers spreadsheet, and my food journal.
I've found I can tolerate more fruit before 1400 hours than later in the day. In fact I can tolerate more carbs before 1400 hours than I can later.
I've found that berries are more diabetes friendly, blueberries, blackberries, and raspberries. Strawberries I have to limit a bit more.
Half an apple, half a pear, a small mandarin orange, half a peach, a plum, a small nectarine, are good for me. They are all 1 serving as is half a orange.
I can handle a whole avocado at 2 net carbs.
Most diabetics can handle a serving of melons.
I can handle many fruits is I stick to eating that alone.
My exceptions are sweet cherries, grapes, mangoes and pineapples. I can only do a half serving.
I am limited to 2 servings a day. That is unless I forgo meals.
I've also found that at 3 hours, my numbers are at or lower than before I ate a serving of fruit if that is all I ate.
This is my experience, so that is all I can go by. I started this response less than an hour after you posed this question.
I've been emptying my very small garage that I have been using as a storage shed for 35 years. Things are sorted and outside, covered with tarps. It was 36c(95f) today. By 0900 it was 30c(86f). I'm going to bathe now.
Good luck.
Yes, as someone with type 2 diabetes, you can eat fresh fruits in moderate quantities. However, not all fruits are the same in terms of their impact on blood sugar levels. Here are some key points to consider:
- Moderation: Eating fresh fruits in moderate quantities is generally safe and can be part of a healthy diet for Show Full Answer
Chris,
All depends on what you define as ….moderate?
Best beginning advice. Reduce your fruit consumption to one-half…AND……
always better to imbibe natural sugar (fruit) over processed sugar (donut), but in………Moderation.

Be aware of grapefruit. Do not take with "statins" which are used for treatment of cholesterol. I was also told not to do grapefruit because it is suspected of altering how quickly a time-release metformin works, causing metformin to get broken down too fast causing dangerous low blood sugars. As always ask your doctor or even the pharmacist about interactions for your medications. Blue and black berries seem to do better for diabetics, and you can always do research to determine what fruits have lower sugar contents. One of the most troublesome parts of diabetes is that everyone is different and things I eat don't work for everyone else and some things others eat I cannot do.
