@A DiabetesTeam Member I guess my point is, we can change the name - call it something else that has "no stigma today" but only because it's a new term
In a couple of year, no matter what they change the name to, people will give it a "new stigma" - nothing will change save a break for a couple years until the new label is just as negative
Some people do not like ,to be addressed, labeled as a' Diabetic'.; that's understandable, it is up to each of us, to determine what choice of wording, is comfortable, or not, in our everyday life. I, myself, have no problem using, or being called, a Diabetic. I have, on remission, Breast Cancer; some people have approached me saying 'i thought only women get Breast Cancer' ,I answer them ,by telling them , anyone of us can get Cancer ,anywhere on our bodies. I am just glad, I reached my 80th birthday two weeks ago, in spite of Diabetes, Cancer, blood pressure. I am just glad to be alive, regardless, what people say. I don't spend sleepless hours, thinking of what , other people think. Keep on, keeping on, my fellow Diabetics.

I am blessed with family and friends that see my totality . And still love me. And an NP that treats me as a person not an only an illness . So i do not care. But understand those that do! And maybe changing how we are labeled in medical journals will help all doctors to change their prejudice.
I personally do not care being called Diabetic. Matters not to me.
It doesn't bother me to be called diabetic. Both ways say the same thing.
