Why Am I Feeling Hungry All The Time? Eating Small Meals Like Every 2 Hours. Could It Be The Medication Because I Just Started It Yesterday
Often a feeling of being hungry can be confused with feeling thirsty- try drinking something, non sugary of course.Water is best but other things like green tea coffee are acceptable
I asked this question to my MD who basically told me hunger is one of ways the body is asking for fuel even if it does not need it. He recommended me to eat protein and fiber foods with low glycemic indexes because it can give me more nutrition, and it will delay the sense of emptiness in the digestive track and the hormonal message to the brain that it is time to eat. He recommended me eating healthy fats to make the body use its own fats as source of fuel. Drink plenty of water and do intermittent fasting, but make sure you talk to your MD before you start that kind of approach.
The metformin won't make you feel either hungry or full - so it's is not effecting your (urge to eat)
Feeling hungry is a response to the absence of a hormone that our body releases when we eat and digest something
As we burn up all the energy consumed from our last meal the hormone also stops sending the "I'm full message" and we start to crave more food
This happens whether we actually "really need to eat or not" and unless we are in danger of being "underweight" it is almost always a false message - if we have extra body fat we really don't need to eat anything else at that time
Particularly if you are feeling hungry between meals and you are not exercising heavily or over exerting yourself with some other physical activity - some reason that you are getting low on "fuel" then the feeling hungry is more than likely a psychological effect due to any number of influences (anything from boredom all the way up to depression)
Adding more unsaturated fat (within your total calorie tolerance - you don't want to gain weight by "overeating") protein and fiber to your diet can curb the "feeling hungry" - all those macronutrients take longer to digest so you feel full longer
But mostly, it comes down to willpower
If you "know" that there is no physical reason that you should be eating (working your tail off and burning tons of calories) then it mostly comes down to "willpower"
Just say NO until it's time for your next structured meal
