When Is The Best Time Of The Day To Test Myself
Then you are testing properly - we can never have too much information
Depends on "why" you are testing
If your Doctor is looking for specific information (like what is your typical fasting number) they will tell you when to test "for their use"
If you are testing to adjust insulin dosage then immediately before and two hours after eating a meal are typical
If you are just using testing to help you manage and identify if maybe a (problem) is developing then testing your fasting sugars, in the morning as soon after you get up as possible and before you stick anything (even toothpaste) in your mouth is one of the main tests
Then 2 hours after the first bite of you biggest/most carb intense meal of the day (usually supper for most of us but that could vary) will show you how your system is responding to what you are eating
Those two tests will give you a good idea as to what is happening and where (treatment or dietary change) is most needed
So why are you testing?
The answer to that can help you figure out "when" to test
The "guidance" states unless you use insulin or take sulfonylurea's there is little "clinical value" in testing at all - they figure guessing why your A1C suddenly went high is good enough
For us that want at least some warning, testing twice a day, fasting and post meal gives us a good snapshot and will let us know when one of them becomes a problem
Since both issues are medicated "differently" it would be nice to know where the problem lies IF there is one - is your liver throwing sugar parties or are you stuffing the wrong food down your throat - testing will help figure which
Thanks Graham I basically test to see where I am and when I don’t feel well
