Mounjaro is the "newest" major Diabetes drug to hit the market

While it belongs to the drug class "GLP-1 Agonists" which includes Ozempic, Rybelsus and a few others it actually mimics a second hormone, GIP, as well which should make it even better than other drugs in it's class

It is a weekly "injection" - no pill form

It is expensive - list price from the mfg (Eli Lilly) is $1069 a month

This drug like others in it's class work by making your pancreas release more insulin then it would otherwise - so can only work if you are producing decent amounts of insulin yourself

And the drug also sends a signal to your brain telling it "I'm full" so you tend to eat less resulting in weight loss for most who use it

There is a ton of side effects like every other drug and typically the GI stuff - upset tummy, vomiting, diarrhea etc but that usually goes away once you are dosed up to your prescribed dosage (you have to move up in a couple of steps)

These more serious warnings are posted right on the company website:

Mounjaro may cause tumors in the thyroid, including thyroid cancer. Watch for possible symptoms, such as a lump or swelling in the neck, hoarseness, trouble swallowing, or shortness of breath. If you have any of these symptoms, tell your healthcare provider.

Inflammation of the pancreas (pancreatitis). Stop using Mounjaro and call your healthcare provider right away if you have severe pain in your stomach area (abdomen) that will not go away, with or without vomiting. You may feel the pain from your abdomen to your back.

NO DRUG is SAFE - but uncontrolled Diabetes is deadly 100% of the time - sometimes there is no good choice so you simply pick the "better bad option"
