Is your question "could diabetes be causing a kidney issue" then the answer is yes. But you could have also simply slept on a bad angle and got a kink in your back muscles near your kidney

If the condition persists more than a day or two, see your doctor - if it is serious you don't want to waste time guessing or asking on the internet
