Has Anyone Been Diagnosed With Type 2 For Several Years And Then Doctors Decided It Is Type 1?
No, because if you went misdiagnosed for years you would have died unless they started you on Insulin the minute they called you Type 2
They are two totally different diseases and you don't progress from one to the other
Type 1 is auto-immune. Within a couple of days your pancreas is totally unable to produce any insulin so if you don't start immediately using insulin multiple times a day you will die, right then
Type 2 is a metabolic disorder and over the duration of the disease you may be able to manage with diet alone, oral meds or weekly "non-insulin" injections
But it may progress to the point where as a Type 2 you "also" (like a Type 1) need to take insulin to manage
All that makes you is an Insulin Dependent Type 2
In years past that was simply called Insulin Dependent Diabetes Mellitus (IDDM) to separate the insulin user from a "Juvenile Diabetic" (now called Type 1)
If you "develop" Type 1 "in addition to" your Type 2 then you would have "BOTH" - but Type 2's do not become Type 1's years later and if you were initially misdiagnosed you would have likely died within a month or two of diagnosis
You can't get that diagnosis wrong and survive
Thank you for letting me know that its Important to me
Thank you. This doctor worries me and Iām heading towards a second opinion.
Very useful, thank you.
