That depends

If you have a problem with your Fasting Sugar levels then Metformin is the ONLY tablet (other option is long acting Basil Insulin)

If your body is still making half decent insulin levels then you could take a Sulfonylurea Tablet (there is about a half dozen slightly different options in the drug class)

They work awesome BUY they can be quite burdensome to take - have to take it 15 or 30 minutes before a meal and Never skip a meal - have to eat each day at the same time - have to eat almost an identical amount of carbs in each meal so have to do lots of planning and even if you do everything correctly, some of these "pills" can cause a deadly low

But they are cheap at about $3/day in most countries

OR you could take a "pill" called Rybelsus - works really well, you don't have to worry about when/how much you eat - just take it and forget it but it also costs upwards of $1000/month (US dollars)

But what is BEST for YOU can only be determined by your Doctor - if you have other conditions then there may be a specific diabetes drug that could help "both" conditions

Asking on the Web is like asking what is the best Car - you will get thousands of opinions and likely none will have any actual value to you

That is a real tricky question. There are many medications for diabetes. The one that is the best is the one that works for you. None of us can tell you one specific tablet. To find the right one can be simply a trial and error venture. Some of them have horrible side effects... But... not to everyone. If you are prescribed one that doesn't seem to agree with your body system, tell the doctor and get off of it as quick as possible. You will be prescribed a different one and there will be the one that seems made for you and you can breathe easy again. I promise..
