How long have you been on metformin? If it's been less than a month, you might want to see if the GI symptoms pass with just some time. For some folks, it takes about three months until they are symptom free. The good thing about metformin is that is does not cause hypoglycemia as bad as other medications.

There are other diabetes meds. Talk to your doctor. He would be able to decide the treatment you need.
