Food Suggestions
Hello to all my diabetic friends, I was wondering if someone could give me some suggestions on what we can eat for breakfast i have been stuck on eating the same thing every single morning i normally have 2 eggs and one piece of bacon and that's it i know it's not healthy to eat it everyday so I'm looking for other options, I normally have grilled or baked chicken and vegetables for supper or some other type meat but i stay hungry most the time because i just don't know what to eat, If anyone⦠read more
Im not much of a breakfas eater...protien drink that is 0 sugar and very low carb....maybe ratio brand ketp yogurt and some almond butter...I snack on apple slices and cheese...I used keto 0 net carb bread and bagels if I eat bread... I only cook on my days off...I eat lots of tuna....salad...boiled eggs...roasted chicken...I can eat a bit mmore if I am super active...I read tons of labels and watvch carbs...dont touch sugar or milk or rice or flour....very very occassionally oats steel cut only... salads or eggs and bacon if I need a large meal.......but what works one day might now work another...if it werent for my glucose monitor I wouldnt even know what my sugar is doing...only time I feel anything is if my bs gets low....like in the 70s....but that is seldom.... since they reduced my insulin....only thing I take once a day at night ......oh I eat lots of seeds and nuts.....drink lots of green tea...decaf and reg...I limit my coffee...cause I hate decaf coffee....and I try my best to stop eating by 6 pm...some days are better than others...and I am always looking for food that satisfies me.....isnt easy....
@A DiabetesTeam Member The best suggestions you'll get is from your blood glucose meter. All of us are different so what might work for me might not work for you.
2 eggs and 1 slice of bacon is quite healthy. The eggs would give you about 0.8g of carbs and the bacon would have negligible carbs. What blood glucose reading do you get for your breakfast?
My strategy is to keep the carbs down, how much down depends on the blood glucose readings we get. I'm on a very low carb diet because I'm quite insulin resistant.
All I can tell you is what I eat for breakfast.
Tinned mackerel either in oil or brine with a little mayonnaise.
Cheese omelette
Hard boiled egg and mozzarella
1-2 grilled or fried sausages depending on how much carbs they have
Cheese and salami
Flax Meal. Psyllium Husk with Soya Yoghurt
Chia Pudding with a little cocoa
Ham and eggs
Smoked salmon and scrambled egg
Smoked salmon and cream cheese
1-2 Frankfurters depending on size
Why not occasionally skip breakfast? I do and it helps with blood glucose and weight control.
For dinner it's low to mid carb vegetables with a meat. No starchy vegs or root vegs except occasionally carrots.
Evening meal is similar to breakfast.
Supper before I go to bed something light both in weight and carbs.

Breakfast is whole wheat toast and peanut butter or Steele oats. Also fruit. Orange ,apple,banana. About an hour after breakfast I go for a 20 minute walk. Eat healthy most of the time but don't stress if you cheat from time to time. After all there is going to be holidays , birthday and other special occasions. Just be mindful and get back on track next day.
@A DiabetesTeam Member @A DiabetesTeam Member So far my impression is that most dieticians follow the guidelines established by the medical field, and that the medical field is largely "carb friendly" and prefers to just increase medications so that patients can continue to eat carbs. My own preference is to do the opposite-eat fewer carbs in order to take less (or no) medication. (Bottom line: I WILL take meds if changing my lifestyle doesn't improve my glucose enough though).
My hands-on experience is limited firstly to a diabetic cat I healed by forever removing all carbs from his diet and treating him with bovine insulin for less than a year-at which time he was healed. And later by reducing my own PRE-diabetic A1C from 6.4 to 5.8 (so far) with lifestyle changes alone (starting with significantly lowering my carb intake early on).
Because of the success I had with my very diabetic cat-I was real disappointed with the lack of info available to me, when I needed it for myself. First, I had to go outside of the conventional veterinary field to learn bow to heal my cat (not cure) and later outside of the conventional medical establishment to learn how to improve my blood glucose (with reduced carbs and lifestyle changes). FWIW I haven't seen a nutritionist (yet) because of the controversary over carbs, but I am tempted at times and wish I could feel comfortable doing so.
Eat only wholegrain or wholewheat or wholemeal bread, high fibre high protein low fat low sugar breakfast cereals semi skimmed or skimmed milk boiled poached or scrambled eggs with mushrooms.READ THE LABELS ON EVERYTHING U BUY
