My name is Patrick McLachlan. I was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes in 1973. My GP informed me that a young person with diabetes should not smoke and avoid consuming alcohol; Smoking cause your arteries to block and alcohol is not good for the nervous system. Diabetes also has the same cause so one must avoid being attacked from other bad habits. This year I have been injecting for 51 years and are in a expected normal healthy condition. The GP also mentioned that one must try to keep fit. Hope the observations are help to all new diagnosed diabetics.
