How Many Of You All Have To See Specialist, for Diabetes Related Complications?
In the past I have seen GI specialist, Orthopedic for frozen shoulder, Neurosurgeon for bulging disc and a Neurologist for nerve pain. I feel like I'm on the right track now. My numbers are good. Try to keep those numbers in tight range,to avoid complications.
I don't need (yet) and don't have an Endo, anything my Family Doc (Primary) can't handle gets me a sit down with a Professor of Clinical Medicine (University Health Network and this dude reviews all the Diabetic cases for the Chief Resident)
Otherwise I see two different Psychologists (Clinical and Cognitive), a Psychiatrist (occasionally) and Social Worker - not specifically for Diabetes but everything gets rolled in
Otherwise, I see a Certified Diabetes Educator (CDE) Dietitian a couple times a year doing a meal analysis once a year to try and detect vitamin/mineral/trace deficiencies that may need to be supplemented - don't want to manage the Diabetes with Diet and cause some other chronic issue in the process - WE need to be aware of Total Health
And nobody should feel any kind of shame or stigma if you need a "shrink"
If you "emotionally eat", have trouble "accepting you are diabetic", are stressed, or depressed or have Any Mental Health issues or concerns, get them "treated" - in their presence you are unlikely to ever manage your diabetes
Fix yourself IF YOU NEED TO and then Diabetes doesn't look like such a monster
With age comes wisdom and understanding. We do know more sometimes. That's scary when these people deals with our well being. I to saw a Rheumatologist in the past as my test showed my marker's we're elevated. Good news. I didn't have RA,I know it is autoimmune. I did have OA in my spine. I pray that you have better health.I do take arthritis meds, and muscle relaxers. Diabetes is a constant battle. But we've got this. Hugs
My neice is an endocrinologist and I update her on my diabetes journey at least once a year. She says she will tell me when I need to see an endocrinologist. She tells me not yet, since I am better than well controlled.
My general cardiologist I see 2x a year. And I have an echocardiogram yearly, scheduled for Tuesday 14 May. I see my general cardiologist on 10 June. My interventional cardiologists have released me, as well as have my electrocardiologists.
I have radiation oncologists that I now see only yearly. I have a oncologist that I see yearly. And I see my urology oncologist and urologist 2x yearly.
I now see a podiatrist 4x a year. On my first visit he gave me dirty looks and told me I needed to wear diabetic shoes. When he asked me questions about my diabetes journey, I told him about the painful feet I had for 9 months when diagnosed with diabetes in February 2021.
And I told him that symptoms went away after 5 months on my ultralow net carb right eating lifestyle. He told me that doesn't happen. I told him to test my circulation in my feet. He did and determined that I have no capillary damage in my toes and feet. He allows me to wear my $50.00 to $70.00 flip flops.
My pulmonologist released me when I retired. I had severe asthma and COPD. Both have eased since I retired, June 2022.
My neurologist released me from annual check-ups 23 years ago. He said to come back to see him again when Parkinson's impacts my life.
I see my ophthalmologist 2x a year.
My gastroenterologist said to see him again in 5 years.
I see my PCP, 2x a year.
My concierge gerontologist friend tells me that I am too physically active to need her services yet.
I see my rheumatologist annually.
My dermatologist released me 15 years ago. He said my psoriasis and eczema were well controlled and only a nuisance. Come back to see him when they get worse.
My somnologist released me 15 years ago. After a year of well controlled sleep apnea with my cpap.
My Chronic Lyme's Disease doctor released me 6 years ago. He said to call when symptoms get worse.
My orthopedist released me 10 years ago.
Never give up, never surrender, never ever.
You got this.
Have a wonderful day.
My primary notices in changes in me,she gets right on it. Recently put me on antidepressants. I will be seeing a shrink. There is no part of the body diabetes doesn't affect. More people need to be educated on the effects it has on mind, and body. I'm not ashamed to say I need antidepressants, and seeing a shrink. You're right GrahanLamb, overall health is crucial
