Novo Nordisk is pleased to announce Canada will be the
first country worldwide to launch Awiqli® (insulin icodec injection), which will be available across the country starting June 30, 2024.

Awiqli® is the world’s first once-weekly basal insulin and is indicated for the treatment of adults with diabetes mellitus to improve glycemic control.1 Health Canada approved Awiqli® on March 12, 2024.

Also Eli Lilly on the Basil version which may be the main reason the FDA (US) has not approved this insulin for the US

They want more information on how Nordisk plans to advise Type 1 patients on protecting from dangerous lows from their product (like seriously - nothing is more dangerous then the Bolus Insulins being injected by millions everyday already)

Which to me sounds more like "lets wait until a US company that will funnel lots of political donations is ready to put (this) on the market" - it took them 22 years to approve Metformin after it was widely available and it wasn't until Bristol-Meyers Squibb - a New York based pharmaceutical came up with their version before it hit US Drug Stores

Once a week would be great, ☺️ I wonder "worry" how it would affect the numbers throughout the week. I have seen people who can control with a pump struggle with keeping their numbers in range. But if I could get one shot off the daily regimen count me in. 🤣☺️

Currently, the context provided does not mention any new developments or changes for basal insulin users that would allow for a weekly injection instead of a nightly one. Basal insulins like Basaglar and Toujeo are long-acting insulins that are typically administered once daily.
