A DiabetesTeam Member asked a question πŸ’
London, UK

I've been dx with t2 diabetes for 27 years and maybe had it for 7 years before that. It's getting more difficult to manage which means that I have to put more thought and effort into keeping my bgs down.

The experts say it's progressive and whilst in a way it is I find that term objectionable because of its negative connotations. It certainly is progressive if we don't take the proper steps to stop it progressing.

@A DiabetesTeam Member I think it was because of how high my A1C was before 12.5 and I was on max medication already. If I wasn't a trucker I he would have put me on insulin sooner. But until recently Insulin wasn't allowed for CDL drivers.

@A DiabetesTeam Member Hmm, why is he:
a) so sure that your pancreas is burned out?
b) that this was caused by the meds you're taking. Sulfonureas are supposed to do that but also it could be that the beta cells in your pancreas are there but have been overwhelmed by fatty tissue. Recent studies have indicated that that might be the case.

I'm not saying that it isn't the case that your pancreas is burned out just that he seems so sure of himself.

I've had type 2 for over 20 years. I have to work harder at it now because my doctor says the drugs I took have burned out my pancreas. I'm on insulin now that I can take it and still drive a truck

I've been a type 2 diabetic for over 14 years, and as long as I manage my sugar & lose weight, it will be okay.
