Do Pre-diabetic's Take Metformin??
@A DiabetesTeam Member there is no reason they can't, it can be prescribed for pre-diabetics and it is offered regularly in Europe/EU to pre-diabetics as a (standard thing)
That is not the typical case in North America despite our doctors over here follow exactly the same treatment guidelines (and maybe because insurance companies over here don't want to pay for something until it's really necessary, but that's just an opinion - highly socialized medicine like you see in the EU looks more at "stop it before it becomes a problem and here we wait to treat thing when they happen)
But there is no reason a pre-diabetic couldn't go on a low dose. The EU has found that their pre-diabetics who go on metformin keep full Type 2 away for an average of 15 years longer than those that don't take it - so there is a benefit AND if you don't really need it "yet" but take it would allow you to continue a more varied diet (less restricted) then if you were doing it all by yourself
I see a bunch of positives
But it is a drug and on a personal level I'm willing to do a good bit of work to keep off meds until I really need them and that will be when my diet/exercise regimen is not enough - personal choice
Bottom line - it can help pre-diabetics delay or prevent full onset and could help many stay pre-diabetic by giving a bit of helping hand
GrahamLamb... it's true about EUROPE using metformin. When I did my 600 miles hike from France to the end of Spain I ran out of my Berberine and when to the pharmacy and the only metformin they have is 850 mg, so I had to cut them in half. And in Europe you don't need prescription for anything. The Voltaren for example was 4 euros the big tube. Have a blessed night 🙏.
Hi TheresaThomas... I don't know the answer to your question but let me ask you is the metformin 500mg or less?
I don't take any FDA drugs for diabetes, I have been taking Berberine ( Throne is the brand ) it's an organic supplement since 2007. Have a blessed night 🙏.
Meformin
