Along with diabetes, I’ve fought a neurological disease called, Dystonia. Sadly, there is no cure for this disease.

Bottom line: There are a gargantuan number of diseases for which there is no formal cure.

Do you know why?

Exactly!!

$$$$$$$$$$$$$$

@A DiabetesTeam Member Hi and welcome. I would say that there are a lot of conditions that medicine can't cure and instead it tries to just make things better, but not perfect again. Treatment for diabetes can stop any more damage being done to your body and without treatment, people can worsen to loosing eyesight, limbs, etc..

You can't think of Type 2 as a "disease" because it isn't. You don't catch it from germs in the air or ingesting some foreign substance or from a blood transfusion - it's not an infection

It is a metabolic condition or disorder if you like where your level of insulin resistance can not be overcome by the amount of insulin your pancreas can produce

The two main factors that seem to contribute to insulin resistance are excess body fat, especially around your belly, and a lack of physical activity.

How do you "treat" that - force people to maintain weight and exercise "before" the resistance develops?

Since I was a kid every health organization on the planet was telling us to exercise, watch our weight and eat properly - if we had have listened and actually done it, we wouldn't have developed insulin resistance

There is no "infection" to treat, no bone to set, no "cells" to be radiated

How to you "treat" or what caused a broken arm?

The break is "diagnosed" and they try to fix it - it doesn't always go back together like it originally was

The only possible treatment was to "prevent" putting yourself in a situation where the bone got broken in the first place

Same with Type 2 - you needed to "not put yourself at increased risk" in the first place - after you are there, you can't go back

Diabetes, particularly type 2 diabetes, is a complex condition with multiple contributing factors. Here’s a detailed explanation based on my knowledge base:

Diagnosis of Diabetes:
- Blood Tests: Diabetes is diagnosed through various blood tests that measure blood glucose levels, such as:
- Fasting Blood Sugar Test: Measures blood sugar after an overnight fast.
- A1C Test: Provides an average blood sugar level over the past 2-3 months.
- Oral Glucose Tolerance Test: Measures blood sugar before and after consuming a sugary drink.

Challenges in Curing Diabetes:
- Complexity of Causes:
- Genetic Factors: Some people have a genetic predisposition to diabetes.
- Environmental Factors: Lifestyle choices, such as diet and physical activity, significantly impact the development of diabetes.
- Insulin Resistance: In type 2 diabetes, cells become resistant to insulin, making it difficult for the body to regulate blood sugar levels.

Treatment Approaches:
- Medication: Helps control blood glucose levels.
- Lifestyle Changes: Weight loss, exercise, and diet changes can manage and sometimes reverse early-stage diabetes.
- Monitoring: Regular check-ups to manage and prevent complications.

Current Time Awareness:
As of today, Thursday, September 26th, 2024, medical research continues to explore better management and potential cures for diabetes, but the complexity of the disease makes it challenging to find a one-size-fits-all solution.
