I have both (Type 2 and Hypertension - not medicated for the Diabetes, take an ACE Inhibitor for the BP)

The Diabetes, even unmedicated means eating low carb - under 150 day (your number may be a little different before it effects your blood sugar negatively)

For the Hypertension, low/no salt and mind the Saturated Fats and try to eliminate Trans Fats

So simply "eat healthy, low carb, non-processed" for both conditions - have been doing it for 8 years now and it's just the way I eat "NOW"

aim to follow a healthy and balanced diet that includes plenty of heart-healthy potassium and fiber while limiting foods with excess sodium, simple, refined carbs and added sugars.

Wow getting your A1c to 4.9 is amazing. Hows your cholesterol? If that a contributing factor to your pressure than you’ve hit the trifecta! My hubby is in that predicament so low salt, low carb and low fat. Its really hard
I use very little prepackaged foods. Shop the perimeter of the store. Tonight I will make a casserole using turkey meatballs ,spaghetti squash , Low sodium tomato sauce and peppers and onions! Top with low fat fresh mozzarella cheese .

Managing meals with type 2 diabetes and high blood pressure can be challenging, but it's definitely possible with the right approach. Here are some tips based on my knowledge base:

1. Balanced Diet:
- Carbohydrate Counting: Track your carbohydrate intake as they directly affect blood glucose levels. Use food labels to monitor grams of carbohydrates.
- Portion Control: Eat smaller portions of high-calorie foods and balance them with lower-calorie options.

2. Meal Planning:
- Plate Method: Fill half your plate with non-starchy vegetables, a quarter with lean protein, and the remaining quarter with whole grains or starchy vegetables.
- Regular Meals: Consume meals at regular times to help maintain stable blood glucose levels.

3. Healthy Choices:
- Low-Fat, High-Fiber Foods: Opt for meals low in fat and high in fiber. This can help manage both blood glucose and blood pressure.
- Limit Sugars: Avoid high-sugar foods as they can increase the risk of developing complications.

4. Consult a Dietitian:
- Personalized Plan: A dietitian can help create a meal plan tailored to your specific needs and goals.

5. Monitor Blood Pressure:
- Less than 130/80 mmHg: Aim to keep your blood pressure below this level as recommended by the American Heart Association.

6. Stay Hydrated:
- Water Intake: Drink plenty of water and avoid sugary drinks.
