I buy Cabernet Sauvignon dark red wine. It’s very dry and has no effect on my BS at all, but everyone is different. πŸ€—

I found that alcohol lowers my blood sugar . This is because our livers are busy eliminately alcohol so it is not producing sugar. I found if I have a drink I can also have a sm desert. But its not always consistent. So for the most part I skip both. But thanksgiving I will probably have a glass of wine and a small slice of pie!

Depends on your drink of choice it may be 100% Diabetes Safe assuming it doesn't interact with any meds you are taking

Many "Light Beer's" are also lower in carbs - so a 6 pack might be out but a couple may not move the sugar numbers one way or the other - if in doubt check the website of your favorite brand - they don't have Nutrition Labels but will list calories/carbs

Alcohol - the distilled stuff - Rum, Whiskey, Vodka etc have Zero Carbs in them - it's all distilled out so either "straight up/on the rocks" OR Mixed with any Diet/Zero Sugar Pop/Soda as a mixer = zero carb drink

Liqueurs like Baileys, Gran Marnier et al are worse than doing concentrated Sugar Shooters so either keep them totally off the list or limit them to a once in a blue moon single shot treat

Wine gives you a wide range of choices - Red Wine is "healthier" than White Wine all else being equal - full of anti-oxidants which is at least a positive for Type 2's

But you need to pay attention to the "sugar count" in the wine (at least in Ontario Liquor Stores all the sugar counts are listed)

A Dry/Very Dry Red Wine with a sugar count between 0 - 8 can be consumed without moving your sugar numbers much at all

A "sugar count" tells you "how many grams of sugar is in the whole bottle" - so a count of "8" would tell you that there is "two teaspoons" of sugar in the entire bottle - the equivalent of 8 carbs/bottle which just about all of us, save those following KETO could handle nicely

I drink Red Wine regularly and have great variety with 0-3 sugar counts readily available in everything from NAPA to French to Australian wines as well as a number of Niagara (Canadian Home Grown Stuff for the Canucks)

Terry, I'm on a lot of all kinds of medications so I don't drink anything ever. I was never an alcoholic but I did love to get high. I miss a glass or two of wine or a few beers on a hot day but I totally abstain mainly because of the meds and diabetes.
