What's The Best (drink) To Stay Hydrated?

A DiabetesTeam Member asked a question πŸ’
Inverary, ON

Seems like a dumb question because We "All Know" that water is the best thing to drink to stay hydrated, don't we?

We have heard that for years

Well guess what?

Somebody finally did a study (University in Scotland/Aberdeen) did the research and water is not number 1, in fact it comes in at number 10 on the list of "what hydrates us the best"

Here's the list with the caveat (they) found that water that contained some carbs, fat or protein resulted in more complete hydration then just plain or… read more

Since you mentioned tea, Graham, how about that for hydration?

@A DiabetesTeam Member yes, me too πŸ˜‚

I'm drinking a coffee right now - has to be at least my 7th or 8th today (and I may have miscounted)

It is a diuretic (as is tea and coke to a lesser extent) so does suck "some water" out of the blood stream but not as much as it puts there, and they hydration gets there faster and more completely because some digestion was involved - that's essentially what they found in the study - digestion of some macro nutrient (added to the) water, improved the hydration - go figure
