How Do You Control Your Numbers On Your Diabetes Journey.

Hi warriors
Diagnosed February 2021, A1C 13.5.

I control my diabetes with right eating, portion control, Japanese science and medicine, exercise if your doctors allow, attitude, and a compelling reason to do what is necessary. I sleep 6-7 hours nightly, 8 is better. I do 10-15 minutes self care daily. Baby steps.

I test at least 4-6 times daily
1) upon waking- fasting blood glucose number, less than 7.0(126) is good.
2) 2 hours after eating my most carb laden meal, 7.8(140).
3) before… read more

I stick to my way of eating (Low Carb/High Fat Diet) to achieve two things

First, keep my carb intake inline with what my system can handle and remain in range at least 80% of the time

Second, keep my calories neutral to what I burn to maintain Normal Weight - the best thing most of us can do to really help manage Type 2 is to get to normal weight and maintain it.

Any exercise I do is simply "bonus" - if I relied on it to burn carbs (rather than simply restrict them going in, in the first place) then I would always have to exercise and any disruption due to injury or the flu or whatever would potentially cause a loss of blood sugar control, so would rather use exercise as an "extra" rather than a core (treatment)

Moderation of my diet and daily exercise. Sleep is important. Try not to worry. Hobbies, friends and family.

I'm on a good medical aid which pays for my medication (my doctor has me on
Metformin and Forziga) - I have a small co-payment. When I was diagnosed in
2000, I immediately stopped drinking soft drinks like Coke and also reduced
my evening meal sizes. I take my medicine regularly and don't take any
sugar with tea or coffee. I also cycle (MTB) and go to the gym regularly.
Without being obsessive, I watch what I eat - i.e. I will have some
chocolate occasionally, but just a little. Reducing sweet things over a
long time has helped. Small portion sizes have helped and I guess the
weight loss (from 88Kg in 2000 to 76 Kg now).also helped. Most of all the
medication keeps things balanced and my HbA1C is around 6 with daily
readings from 5.8 to 6.5. Small steps are good, not stressing too much is
good, it just takes time to readjust one's outlook and realise I'd rather
live longer and forego a few treats. Maybe I'm also lucky

Great work. I dropped down from 240 to 178. It took a year to drop the 62 pounds.
