Some things digest quicker than others leaving us feeling hungry "sooner" than if we eat something else

A simple list of "what metabolizes the quickest" is:

Alcohol (including vinegar) is the first thing our digestive system will try and burn up/deal with - this is why Apple Cider Vinegar can help from peaking too high when consuming carbs - the body will spend more time on the vinegar than the carbs so they get spread over a longer period of time during the process

Next is Simple Carbs - that's all the "sugars" whether it's fructose in an Apple, or a teaspoon of Honey or Table Sugar

Our system just sucks those up resulting in a blood sugar spike with a corresponding release of insulin (if we are producing any) to deal with it

Of course as Type 2's almost all of us have some deficiency in producing insulin (personally I only make 85% of "normal") PLUS we are all Insulin Resistant to some degree - sometimes "very resistant"

So while our system "tries" to deal with those simple sugars we may not have the "resources". That is managed by either "eating less of them" OR taking a Med to help deal with them

Complex Carbs which are (predominantly but not exclusively) Starches are the next thing to get "hacked up and consumed" - a complex carb is a (collection) of 2 or more sugars that must be "split apart" to digest, so takes a little more time than Simple Carbs and Alcohol, but they are still (digested) rather quickly which means you feel "empty" sooner (relatively)

Next you have Protein

Protein takes a "while" to digest compared to the carbs/alcohol - it sits for a while so you feel full longer

Some protein has zero carbs (meat) others has starches (beans as an example) - so (no judgement here, just a fact), Plant Based Proteins can/will elevate your blood sugar AND they are digested quicker than Animal Proteins

So better for the vascular system, and that's important, but without strict portion size control, plant based proteins are potentially "bad for blood sugar"

Finally there is the Fats

They hang around for a long time - our system just has a real tough job digesting them so we "feel full during that longer time frame"

Trans Fats will kill us so should be avoided

Many Saturated Fats - the ones we love like in French Fries or Fried Chicken are pretty tough on the heart so have to be moderated (plus the fries are loaded with starch)

But there is some others, unsaturated, that leave you feeling full and are "healthy"

You can drink 8oz of Chocolate Milk, it tastes great has about 7 grams of protein and 5 grams of fat, but the 30 carbs (lactose - milk sugar) - not very filling

Instead eating an ounce of peanuts - with it's 14 grams of Fat (mostly healthy unsaturated) 7 grams of protein and only 2 carbs will take a long time to digest and will keep you feeling full longer than a glass of milk or an apple or even a slice of toast

You can do it Sheila.
Work harder and remember what @A DiabetesTeam Member says “never give up, never surrender, never give the beast control” and most importantly, he says “baby steps”, but you need to do the hard work to live a normal life 🤗
