Can Type 2 Diabetes Be Managed Or Put Into Remission "Without Medication"?

A DiabetesTeam Member asked a question 💭
Inverary, ON

At least once a week the question seems to come up, often from a newly diagnosed member

They may have heard diabetes could be reversed or they are asking if they should take this prescribed med the Doctor wrote a script for because they googled the side effects and the stuff sounds like poison and asking if it's safe

I'm not a Doctor or health professional so I am not prevented with sharing my opinion which does Not take into effect how you might feel about the information

So lets start with… read more

I’m afraid the mantra of doing things in moderation does not apply to many diabetics. For them (including myself) moderation would result in high blood glucose levels.

In any case moderation is too vague a word. Moderation for one person is extreme for another person eg too many or too few carbs consumed.

I suggest we replace the word “moderation” with “eat to your meter” and keep your blood glucose within the recommended levels or face possible complications at a later date.

The choice is keep your blood glucose levels down to as close to normal as possible or maybe face health problems later.

There are no other choices. We can’t afford to gamble with our health.

Thanks for your post Graham and constant motivation. There is no doubt that I have managed to reverse my diabetes. I dont for a second think its cured but I am on no meds and also no longer taking any supplements and at the same time able to mange the glucose. My last a1c was 4.7% reversed from 8.8%. For me it is this low carb path and high fat as well as calorific restriction and I think this is forever. I lost 20 kg in the first 6 months of last year then basically held that weight for the last 6 months. Clearly I need to loose a bit more weight so intend to attempt another 20kg this year which would put me into a comfortable bmi and an to do this I have reintroduced intermittent fasting which seems to be the answer to loosing weight together with the low carb diet

You do what you can, Leg. Of course you're tailoring your habits to yourself and no one else. If a person wants to be strict that is their business. I've gone down that route and it has always led me to a binge somewhere down the road. A person listens to his own signals. I cannot dictate to another person something that might only be good for me.
