How Many Has Been Diagnosed With Hyper, Or Hypothyroidism Since Diabetes Diagnosis?
My Dr. checks my thyroid every 3 months, there is a link between diabetes and thyroiditis, both are Endocrine disorders.
Thank you for that @A DiabetesTeam Member, I was able to come off of Lisinopril, but I still take a calcium channel blocker for tachycardia. My lipid profile is pretty good, I do take 10mg. of Lipitor… read more
My Stomach Feels Blotted, Not Sure What Is Causing It. I Ate A Pear Could It Be The Cause?
Not likely.More likely is damage to the nerves of your stomach, causing it to retain food and empty more slowly ( gastroparesis)..
How Worried Are You About Side Effects?
The questions about side effects of prescribed drugs are valid
Any time you put a foreign substance in your body there is likely to be some "side effect", sometimes none noticeable, sometimes minor or fleeting and sometimes downright nasty
BUT don't forget WHY the Doctor is even considering prescribing that Nasty-Dangerous Medication
Specifically when talking about Diabetic Medications too many come in with the (apparent) attitude that they have some OTHER Choice
Of course you have the… read more
What Did You Eat For Supper Today?
Just to show that not all my posts are (technical) in nature 🤣
Today was a long day at the end of a long week for me so didn't really feel like cooking (which I do for myself and my Wife who has Stage 4 Parkinson's Disease and having her near the stove is not a great idea even when she feels stable enough to help out)
So today I decided to have one of my "occasional treat meals" that doesn't have a great deal of nutritional value but let's me remember my life before Diabetes.
We had… read more

Who Has Been Battling The Beast The Longest?
Looking through a list of Team members I noticed that @A DiabetesTeam Member was diagnosed in 1993 - 29 years ago which certainly makes her one of the extreme veterans.
So I'm looking for a "shout out".
When were you Diagnosed??
Myself - 2016 (August) - Age 52
“Once we tell the beast just who is in charge here, the he just has to get packing.”
AMEN, sista!!!
Am I Taking Too Much Medication For My Type 2, I Am Taking 1000mg Twice A Day Metformin, 10 Mg Jardiance, 5 Mg Ozempic And 30 Mg Lantus?
My doctor has me taking a lot of meds but my numbers are still not in range even though I eat low carb meals and watch my sugar intake. I also have AFib and not sure if the meds I take are causing my numbers to be off. I am not hungry but I know I have to eat small meals and not losing weight.
Wow...that does seem like alot. But sometimes if you can't control your sugar the doctor will do that. Is it helping you taking that many meds?
What Can I Eat?
Most days we will see that question posted up a number of times
There is no SIMPLE Answer
If you are Type 2 you have a Metabolic Disorder so there is no "list" that applies to all or even most of us, but that doesn't mean you don't have somewhere to start
If you are looking for a "basic list" then it's easier to say what you Shouldn't Eat
If you are looking to lower your Blood Sugar DO NOT EAT:
French Fries or any white potato, no white rice, no white pasta, no white bread, no muffins… read more

If Jeopardy Had A Diabetes Category, What Would Some Of The Answers Be?
Today I have decided to put together a jumble of facts about diabetes mostly for entertainment purposes – mostly useless trivia.
These will primarily be statistics so you can see how you measure up.
45% - the percentage of Diabetics that have an A1C “above” 7.0
This one surprised me a little given all the new drugs on the market and their availability – sounds a touch high to me since it is almost 1 out 2 that are essentially “not controlled”
537 Million – the number of “diagnosed”… read more

Did Anybody Know That Today, 17 May Is World Hypertension Day????
I didn't - must be slipping up
Most of us aren't simply Diabetic (or a person with diabetes if you prefer) but rather we have Metabolic Syndrome
That is any 2 of:
Type 2 Diabetes
Hypertension
High Cholesterol
High Triglycerides
BMI Greater than 30
And just about ALL of US had at least two on that list when we got the Membership Card to the Dead Pancreas Society
So that means a good number of us, myself included, have/had/are currently taking meds for Hypertension in the form of ACE… read more
