Coffee And Sugars

A DiabetesTeam Member asked a question 💭
London, UK

Hi this morning sugars were about 11 yes it’s high but due to being bad last night biscuits , but had meds and thought that would drop wasn’t hungry did not eat , waited for lunch and all I had was a skimmed milk Americano , checked sugars at 1 pm and they were 12 , I’m on insulin so my question is

1 have my sugars just raised naturally

2 is the coffee that bad ( low carbs hardly any sugars)

3 is the sugar level a reaction to not eating and having my medication

Lost in space ?

Coffee & Sugar , My BS rises on it's own many times. Also YES , sometimes we skip eating or drinking anything and our BS can still rise ( on it's own. ). Sometimes we do not eat / drink anything ( Fasten )and our BS will rise on it's own.

Try to avoid eating sweets ( snacks ) or drinking any liquids that have sugar added to them.
( Not good for us diabetics at all. )

SUGAR REACTION IF WE TAKE OUR INSULIN BEFORE OR AFTER:
Your BS should drop LOW. ( But it also depends on how much insulin you take and also how high your BS is.

COFFEE: I LOVE coffee , or am still addicted to coffee , So what I do is not add any sugar to the coffee at all , I changed to a non-fat milk instead of having creamer(s) at all. ( 1 percent fat free & 2 percent fat free was just not getting it for me. ( It still raised my BS. )

SUGAR RAISES NATURALLY: Yes it can do this ( Mines does ) But mostly if you do not take your insulin properly or at all.

( Don't you just hate this yo-yo , up & down stuff... )

Sometimes the body reacts to not eating by raising your sugar. 11 and 12 are not bad. (contrary to the doctor's opinion)Some people are just naturally higher. The "optimum" numbers are based on faulty numbers, they are based on population "averages". Not everyone is the same find the right numbers for you. When do you feel the best? when your numbers are at $ or when they are at 12?

Dawn phenomenon is one of the common causes of very high BS in the morning. You may need to measure your BS in the middle of the night a few times to tell if this is the cause.

Martin, it is not always our sugar that makes our BS go high. ( Mostly everything we eat / drink , turns into sugar .. This we already know. ) But look at your Carbs as well , How much carbs you take per day and so forth ( yeah it takes a lot of reading the ingredience and so forth , it's a pain in the butt most times. Otherwise , all can say is that mines does the same thing a lot. ( Goes up for no apparent reason that I can think of. I faster or not even eat at night . I can wake up and my BS is sky high... ( I really do not know. )
