How Do Sugar Levels Affect Blurry Vision?
For years I have been nearsighted. I would have to squint sometimes to see street signs while driving or read the page numbers on the wall at church. Then my undiagnosed diabetes had my blood glucose reaching 405 this June and my vision was immensely worse. I couldn't see clearly more than 10 or so inches from my face
As I took metformin and drastically cut carbs... my blood glucose lowered to 140 and my vision was crystal clear. I could see far and it was like 20/20
But, as my levels… read more
Rachael, I have been nearsighted ever since I was 8 years old. I was diagnosed 1.5 years ago with diabetes. Right before being diagnosed, I noticed a significant change in my sight. I honestly thought it was the TV about to go out (LOL). Once I went to the ophthalmologist, she confirmed my sight had gotten worst. I started taking medicine for diabetes and when I went back to the ophthalmologist my sight had improved greatly. Every now and then I will notice a little blurriness but after a few blinks, it clears up. Diabetes can affect so many areas in the body, that's why it's so important to watch our diet and to exercise. Have a great day and take care of you.
Blessings,
Sherry
like you, I just found out in May that I have diabetes. I got new glasses this year. and I could see all right. but since finding out about the diabetes my vision has changed .Now I wear my glasses more.
Hopefully you did not suffer eye damage from the undiagnosed diabetes. The only way to know that is to have a eye exam for diabetes. Not just checking your glasses out. The doctor uses a lens to look into your retina. The smaller nerves in the eyes are affected by high glucose.
James, I think we can just get our glucose levels down and then see the eye dr for glasses when our vision changes. We have to get our retinas checked every year my dr said
I woke up one morning and could not see clearly everything was a blurry. I made an appointment to have my eyes check and a physical with my doctor as this had never happened before. The doctor suspected diabetes and tested me in office immediately. My glucose was as high as yours and she wanted to send me straight to a hospital. I was put on medication after telling her that a hospital stay would make me homeless as I need to work 40 hours to keep a roof over my head. I had my eyes check and received glasses within two weeks of taking the medication and changing my diet. My vision cleared up on it's own but I am considered near sighted also. The glasses ordered for me came and I couldn't see a thing with them. I was told that the prescription had changed within two weeks. I wear glasses to read as I can't see fine print and I can drive fine without my glasses. Make sure that you have your retina checked and a full eye checkup. I drink at least 6 (16.9 ) bottles of water everyday and got my blood sugars down. You can do this.
