Is There A “Part-Time” Diabetes Diet That Will Keep You Off Meds?
I haven’t written about anything for a while now – This is me dipping my toes in the water again.
Anyhow, sometime in the past couple weeks I read a post from a new member looking for diet advice. BUT, they didn’t want to talk to “carb counters”, they wanted a diet you could follow when you felt like it AND would keep you off meds.

Wouldn’t it be nice if we could do a part time diet. Unfortunately the reality is diet and exercise are an important key to staying off meds. It’s not always easy and I am constantly getting one won’t hurt you or I know someone with diabetes and they eat what they want and I ask are they on meds and of course the answer is always yes. My choice is to do everything I can to stay off meds. I don’t do sugar, I don’t do pasta, I use low carb breads, tortillas and buns, I do sweet potatoes but max I eat is 15 carbs worth, I’ve done white potato but only 2 times since diagnosis, I don’t eat rice either. It really hasn’t been to bad. What I really miss the most is some of the higher carb vegetables and my crunchy, salty snacks. I have days where I want to eat but I still stick with low carb high protein food. It takes discipline, perseverance and determination to stay on course. It’s our daily battle with the monster called diabetes.
OK just reading this a few days behind, but you guys made me crack up just now, so needed to laugh a bit. When newly dagnosed I had to take diabetes medications, but 9 months later after diet changes made I was able to come off them, that was 26 months ago, it is possible to find any diet low in Carbs which will help, but the only way it worked for me was to count Carbs.
I agree. Diabetes is not a part time disease.
