Still More Question About "how Do I Lose Weight"?

A DiabetesTeam Member asked a question 💭

It's a recurring question - I try this or that but just can't seem to lose weight, what can I do?

Today while working on a presentation for the Diabetes group I work with I was gathering information on something called a "Basil Metabolic Rate" (separate discussion), but basically what a BMR is the number of calories each of us would burn if we simply had a "couch potato" day.

Calculating your BMR will tell you how many calories you need to survive and not look like someone on a hunger strike… read more

@A DiabetesTeam Member its simply about "getting serious".

The only way to succeed is to have a serious discussion with ourselves.

Stop making excuses "why we can't" and just do it...

I am doing weight watchers for diabetics and i like it. I want to lose 10 more pounds. (I have already lost 20 pounds.) The point system is easy to follow and keeps me accountable.

Yes @A DiabetesTeam Member pretty much. My zero point foods are chicken, fish, legumes, eggs, and non starchy veggies. You are awarded extra points for veggies, exercise, and water to your daily point budget.
That allows you to add/subtract to weekly bonus points allowance if you use up all your daily pts. It also makes a bank for those times you splurge at dinner out or meeting. The weekly points roll over daily but not week to week. The app will track everything and keep track of points your weight, blood sugar etc. It is all online which is best for me. The cost is reasonable in comparison to other weight loss programs. Lol i just need something that keeps me honest with myself and reinforces good habits.

I have changed my diet. Some of you don't like the slim fast . That's ok. But I do. I also like the pure protein drinks. I sometimes have that and a regular breakfast.ike one egg hash browns and meat. I don't eat much bread. Lunches are some kind of fish. like today was tuna mixed with avacodos and whole wheat triscuit crackers, a small tomato and a whole cucumber. And I walk on the treadmill 2-4 miles a day. I am building more muscle than losing weight. But my husband noticed today that my belly is as round today. I have learned to push myself to do these things. I also haven't had much soda either. I used to love my sweet coffees from a gas station back home. For a while we thought maybe I had thyroid problems. But I think my body is just getting used to the new foods yet.. more veggies. I am far from a Vegetarian.. I love my meat

@A DiabetesTeam Member (we) use an online calculator and I will post the link up here

You just load in your age, gender, height, weight and your activity level (in the dropdown)

There is some instructions (notes below the calculator) that talk about activity level

The first dropdown option is simply BMR (basil metabolic rate) which will give the "minimum calories to maintain your basic functions)

Typically in the group I work with we are dealing with people who work behind a desk and we would select the "Sedentary" choice from the dropdown and if the work on their feet we would select "Light"

(of course there is a few other "activity level options")

Anyhow, here is the link: https://www.calculator.net/calorie-calculator.h...

And here's a screenshot of what it gives - I'm using myself and consider that I fit into the "light" activity range (I specifically exercise every other day) but only work part time "on my feet" so "close to light" - I currently eat 2000-2100 calories a day (on average in actuality) and I'm weight stable

And sure enough it has me "maintaining" my current weight somewhere in the 2100/2200 calories a day - to lose a pound a week I would cut to 1755 and to lose 2 pounds a week, 1255 calories would likely achieve that

If you poke around on the page there is a number of other "calculators" - it's a full suite
