Problem Getting Glucose Test Supplies

A DiabetesTeam Member asked a question 💭
Fort Worth, TX

I am having a problem getting a prescription for my ONETOUCH meter supplies filled. The local pharmacy filled the original prescription for the meter, lancets, and test strips that was covered by Medicare for the cost.

I have used up the lancets and test strips, but the pharmacy wants full payment saying they have an "insurance" problem. I am going to talk to the pharmacist tomorrow to see what the problem is.

Yes david that is what i said. I have Anthem as my suplmental insurance covers part a, part b and prescriptions. Some people just use part a and part b but don't pick up anything else and that is what i was refering to.

Thanks, but being on Medicare the Glucose testing items are paid for and my supplement policy pays the deductible. I don't see where a separate policy is needed. Thanks for your suggestion and under different circumstances would be valuable information.

I'm also on medicare and picked up one of the insurance plans. My diabetes supplies are free for the whole year. If you don't have one of the insurance plans but just parts a and b I'm not sure how that works.

One correction to my question. It is Medicare coverage under Part B. My next question to the pharmacy is if they are approved for insurance coverage under part B. If not, then just find a supplier that is.

Call your insurance company to see what they cover on diabetes supplies. Then talk to your pharmacy. Until you get this fixed you can go to walmart. They have a blood sugar monitors starting about $10.00 with test strips starting about $5.00 for 25 strips. Hope this helps.
