I have no stress from diabetes.
Both parents passed from diabetes complications and comorbidities within 10 years of being diagnosed with diabetes.
I am the oldest of 8, and all my siblings were diagnosed with diabetes 10-20 years before my February 2021 diabetes diagnosis, A1C 13.5.
So for my diabetes diagnosis was not a matter of if, but when. So glad I convinced my new doctor to do a A1C.
My diabetes diagnosis and what I have done in response to it has saved my life.
I decided to eat to live, not live to eat. My numbers are supercontrolled with my ultralow net carb, right eating lifestyle.
My meter and my nondiabetic range of 4.0(72) to 7.8(140), tell me I can eat 5 net carbs maximum per meal.
I do what I need to do, no excuses. I am much healthier now than when diagnosed. After 2 heart operations, my heart is much stronger and now pumps like it did when I was 19. I even have a similar resting heart rate of about 45.
My daily prescription medications are down from 13 to 3.
My liver function is much better, and is back to normal with numbers similar and a little better than at 19.
I do take Metropolol for heart rhythm.
Rosuvastatin for cholesterol and triglycerides.
Amlodipine for blood pressure.
And I have an Albuterol rescue inhaler for use as needed. Usually 1-2 times a month.
My kidney function is much better and is back to normal. It is better than when I was 19.
My cancer is controlled, even though it keeps metastisizing. I am currently in my 9th treatment.
My Parkinson's has plateaued again.
My chronic Lyme's is controlled.
My RA has eased.
Now no maintenance daily asthma and COPD medications and my pulse ox is always 98-99%
My triglycerides has dropped from 1500 to 120.
My cholesterol has dropped from 300-500 to about 120, with HDL 74, LDL 38, total 119.
I have dropped 62 pounds and my BMI is 24.8.
So if anything my diabetes diagnosis and what I have done in response to it: has removed stressors, improved my health and gave me a new mission: to help others take control of their diabetes journeys.
So my diabetes diagnosis is a positive in my life.
Please speak to a psychiatrist or psychologist it really helps. Emotional,financial or work stress cN push those numbers up.anxiety is also another factor. Non diabetics always think they know better and have lots of advise. It's an every day challenge. Try to eat right. Exercise and find a positive outlet.
Has ZERO effect on me
I grew up in a house with Diabetics
All my close relatives were/are Diabetic - every grandparent, great-grandparent, uncle, aunt, parents, cousins - the whole gang, we all get a "membership card"
It's just Diabetes - It can't kill you unless YOU let it
If you control to normal levels the only thing that sucks is I can't eat half a pizza or 3 donuts for breakfast - ya that sucks but hardly depressing or stress causing
I'm in remission because I lost the weight, kept it off, eat properly, don't take "eating holidays", I follow an exercise program
I am in better health now than I ever was and my diagnosis probably added YEARS to my life. Otherwise I would have continued to be overweight eating crap and "something else" like a stroke probably would have taken me out
I'm LUCKY I was diagnosed - saved my life and improved my quality of life for years
What exactly is there to stress over?
