What Do You Do When Your Dr Tells You That You Only Need To Use Test Strips Once A Day?
Is it time for a new dr.?
If you are on Insulin and your doctor thinks you don't need to test then they are an Idiot and need to be replaced
Thanks. Yeah I use the Walmart brand. The hospital told me I should be sticking 4 times a day while on insulin. I am going to a new dr.
Some of us test far more than that- fbs, before meals, two hours after meals, before bed,at times of feeling odd.Thats where a cgm is preferable to finger pricks
If your Doctor is following the guidelines which state that most Type 2's don't need to test then you could try explaining why you need more and see if they will compromise OR find a new Doc
The "guidelines" which form the health policy in the US/UK/Can/Aus/South Africa and most other commonwealth countries do not see "stick testing" as a personal management thing "yet" but rather as a check against low blood sugar (deadly) in Insulin and Sulfonylurea users
Most of US see the value in checking on how we are doing so we can make changes if necessary and not get a surprise when we do the A1C test
My Doctor continues to write me a CGM prescription (I take No anti-diabetic meds) because she believes they are the best tool we currently have to manage "lifestyle", but she is rare and initially I had to convince her that they were exceptional for managing your diet
Since you are in the US you do have a lower cost option than most of us IF you can't get the prescription level that you want. Walmart in the US has their own store brand (Reli-On) which is inexpensive compared to all the rest and you could simply pick up the tab yourself (when I was stick testing my old doc only gave me "2 a day" and sometimes I wanted "more" so bought my own extra strips)
Is There Value To "stick Testing" If You Are Not Taking Insulin?
