Can You Drink Orange Juice if You Have Diabetes? Read Article...

No, Vinegar whether the white stuff we used to put on French Fries or the Apple Cider Vinegar that is rated as some kind of (treatment) for Diabetics does not "drop" our blood sugar

What vinegar does is slow down our digestive system which will slow down the uptake of (carbs) in whatever we eat (vinegar delays gastric emptying - so does drugs like Ozempic which is causing all the uproar in the news now since in some cases it slows "too much" and causes Gastroparesis - vinegar is unlikely to do that unless you have a pre-existing issue)

Sounds like splitting hairs but if you want to use Vinegar to help with your diabetes management it should be taken before a meal

What it will do:

If the meal has 30 carbs in it all 30 will still be digested and all that "sugar" will get into your blood

BUT instead of it all being absorbed in about an hour to an hour and a half - getting all 30 carbs worth into your blood in that period of time instead it could take 2 to 3 hours to get those 30 carbs into your blood

Still gets there, just "slower" which gives our compromised system a little more time to deal with it

So you do not PEAK as high BUT you end up elevated "longer" - still get the same amount of sugar, just spread it out over a longer period of time

The only way to "lower" blood sugar in any given moment is Dilute it (drink a lot of water) or burn it up with exercise in the presence of an insulin infusion (if you are not producing enough insulin however, your blood sugar can actually rise when you exercise)

The easiest way to avoid/deal with a blood sugar spike is don't put the stuff in your mouth in the first place that jacks it up. And if it's fasting sugars that are spiking and want "immediate relief" you have to medicate

For me that is a multi tiered question and answers @A DiabetesTeam Member. There is no magic bullet, except replacing what we lack as diabetics, adequate insulin.

1) Begin by eliminating all added sugars in food and drink.
2) Slowly cutting your net carbs.
3) Dropping weight to a normal BMI of 18.0 to 24.9.
4) Gentle Exercise brings down my blood glucose numbers.
5) Walking 10-15 minutes immediately after eating each meal, slows digestion and lowers the post meal glucose spike.
6) Proper Hydration, sip 3-5 litres water daily.
7) 6-7 hours sleep nightly, 8 is better.
8) A compelling reason to do what's necessary. Mine is my family.
9) I eat to my blood glucose meter and the nondiabetic range of 4.0(72 usa) to 7.8(140 usa). I've found that for me. I can get better numbers, if I stick to 2-3 carbs per meal. But I can maximize my net carbs at 5 per meal and stay in range.
10) Control your diabetes journey. Don't allow diabetes to control your life. Live your best life with diabetes.

Good luck.
