@A DiabetesTeam Member as long as your kidney function is normal/near normal your system will be able to evacuate the (residue) without issue, so no toxic build-up and none of the really nasty side effects

While the drug is dosed differently depending on what it is treating, at least in Canada, 1800mg/day (taken in 3 X 600mg doses before meals) is considered the safe maximum for treating Neuralgia

BUT - this drug is really messing with Neurotransmitters stopping them from getting to the pain signal to the brain and over the past couple of decades I have had some really "up close and personal" experience with side effects of chemically "messing with them" and sometimes there is unexpected side effects

Not necessarily "dangerous" but mood or mobility altering

However, since you can't take the Pregabalin the Gabapentin is about the only "effective" non-opioid alternative and you probably don't want to use an opioid until you have exhausted all other options - including going as far as a max dose on Neurontin (Gabapentin) even if it it leaves you a little lethargic, dopey or foggy

The NHS site here in uk says doses up to 3600 mg are safe-personally I wont take gabapentin at all, side effects sound horrific.Have you tried essential oils/massage/vitamin b complex/vitamin D/alpha lipoic acid?

It does leave me feeling dopey. I did have mobility issues with Pregabalin. Also was on Tramadol 100mg. @ the same time. Boy was I really loopy. Gabapentin does help with sleep. Thank you @A DiabetesTeam Member. My kidney function is normal.

@A DiabetesTeam Member. I take the cholecalciferol. @A DiabetesTeam Member yes it does take the edge off the pain. I had some very negative side effects from Lyrica, my family got very upset at my provider. I had to get a new provider, which put me on Gabapentin. The Lyrica really changed my personality. It is on my do not prescribe list.
