Insulin Or Treatment With Jardience And Rybelsus?
Insulins are my 1st choice for diabetes medications now and have been for 4 years since I was diagnosed..
Almost completely natural. Many are made by recombinant techniques. So almost identical to what our own bodies produce.
Exactly what our bodies want and need. I'm really intrigued by the 1x a week basal insulins being used in other parts of the world. They are still waiting on approvals here.
That's my take on diabetes medications.
Three different classes of drugs there with three different benefits and side effects
Insulin is a word that strikes fear in the hearts of Type 2 Diabetics
There are two broad types and classes of insulin generally available
To treat fasting and between meal blood sugars which are released by our liver there is Long Acting or Extra Long Acting "Basil" Insulins that are either synthetic (lab created) or Recumbent Human Analogs (lab grown - they take a drop of real human insulin and grow into a whole barrel - essentially the same method as when they have a speck of DNA and they "make a bunch" to test easier)
The same insulin options are available in Medium, Fast and Extra Fast Acting "Bolus" Insulins that are taken (immediately) before a meal to deal with the sugars/starches you are sticking in your mouth
The side effects of Insulin are typically weight gain (if you eat too many carbs while taking insulin - extra carbs + extra insulin = extra body fat - the "leftovers" have to go somewhere, either energy for cells or body fat)
Human insulin are about 99.8% identical to the insulin your pancreas produces (0.2% preservatives which may cause a skin irritation for some at injection site) - the only other Side Effect is "managing your blood sugar better than ANY other drug"
Jardiance belongs to the SGLT-2 class of drugs
It forces the Kidneys to filter extra sugar out of the blood and pass it in urine
It does help protect the Kidneys from high blood sugar - Kidney disease is the number 2 cause of death in Type 2's, so protection is a good thing
On the downside, SGLT-2's cause chronic yeast infections and Urinary Tract Infections (UTI's) in 20% of users and many have to stop taking it - all the sugar in the urine is "food" for infection - you can develop "gangrene" in extreme cases
But it does a good job of controlling blood sugar
Rybelsus is the oral tablet form of GLP-1 class drugs like Ozempic and Mounjaro
It works by turning the pancreas released insulin (that you produce yourself) on sooner and keeps it flowing a little longer then it naturally would to help with extra blood sugar
It also sends a message to the brain saying "I'm Full" which helps with weight loss
It lowers the risk of Heart Disease as well which is the number 1 killer of Type 2's - so that's positive
But it also puts you at risk for Thyroid disorders including cancer, it can cause Stomach Paralysis and since the drug class has only been around for a few years nobody knows what it will do to you if you take it for 10, 15 or 20 years because nobody has been on it that long (same can be said about the Jardiance)
Depending on your specific medical needs, if any, beside the Type 2, your doctor can advise if one (drug) would be "better for you" then the others
Personally I would take the insulin if that was my 3 choices - it's been around since 1920 and they know every potential side effect, which is "practically nothing" to start with
@A DiabetesTeam Member He's Not My President
No really - I'm a Canuck and we have a Prime Minister and the King 😂
I am aware of that.
Although I believe, my President as a person is a total assho**, I think he is despicable and have believed that for 30+ years.
About 20 years ago I asked him from across the room. Why are you building casinos in Atlantic City when you know you are declaring bankruptcy before they are done.
All those companies and people doing the hard work are just going to get stiffed. Getting paid just 10 cents on each dollar you owe them. It's your track record here.
He said. It's just business.
He is as sly as a fox and hindsight will show he knows what he is doing. But he is still a jerk.
He is making all these threats. I personally don't believe he will take Greenland by force. I think these are just some tactics to gain favorable mining rights.
Some of the other things are there, to put more of us to work in good paying blue collar jobs. It will play out and we will see what happens.
We will not stop importing lumber and real maple syrup from Canada. But goods made here will bring in more revenues worldwide.
We will see how things unfold. I still hate the jerk he is.
Sorry for that rant.
@A DiabetesTeam Member you may be waiting a bit on the once a week version in the US
It's made by Novo Nordisk and currently available in Canada - the first country to approve it
But given that Nordisk is a Danish Company and your President is taking about taking one of their territories "by force" (Greenland) they may not be in any hurry to ship their new insulin to the US 😁
Anyone Taking RYBELLSUS? I Have Just Begun Taking It. Good Or Bad Experiences? Does It Work? A1C 7.8.
Is There A Safer, More Natural Alternative To Taking Actos, Trulicity, Victoza, Ozempic, Rybelsus, Invokana, Farxiga, Jardiance?
