Blood Sugar Levels And Medication

A DiabetesTeam Member asked a question 💭
S Burlington

My Endocrinologist switched me to Januvia 4 months ago. I have noticed that since switching from glimepiride that my blood tests are consistently higher. mornings are 130-150 and afternoons are 110-120. with glimepiride mornings were 100-115 and afternoons were 90-110. Any suggestions?

I have an appointment with her in October. should I contact her sooner?

I don't think you should panic but when you have your next appointment tell your doctor your blood sugar readings were very good on the old medicine. Wondering why your doctor switched you if your readings were so good on the other medicine?

Just be patient n see what happens after u increased Metformin. If the sugar levels go down then stick to it, if they go up? Consult ur doctor immediately.

Contacted her and because the insurance refused the type of metformin I was taking they had to switch to the metformin er. Problem, I had rny surgery and extended release meds don't work. She is increasing the metformin and she said this will probably solve the problem, wasn't the Januvia evidently. sigh

I too am prescribed Januvia and find no improvements at all with my blood sugars inspite of insulin taken. Lots of side effects also for each drug prescribed. We are literally Guinea pigs !
