Am I Taking Too Much Medication For My Type 2, I Am Taking 1000mg Twice A Day Metformin, 10 Mg Jardiance, 5 Mg Ozempic And 30 Mg Lantus?

My doctor has me taking a lot of meds but my numbers are still not in range even though I eat low carb meals and watch my sugar intake. I also have AFib and not sure if the meds I take are causing my numbers to be off. I am not hungry but I know I have to eat small meals and not losing weight.

Wow...that does seem like alot. But sometimes if you can't control your sugar the doctor will do that. Is it helping you taking that many meds?

That's really the bottom line. Are you keeping your numbers, both before meals and 2 hours, to the nondiabetic range of 4.0(72 usa) to 7.8(140 usa).

If not, you might need more help.

About bp. If blood pressure is high, you risk kidney disease, leading to dialysis. Take the bp medications. CKD, Chronic Kidney Disease sucks.

About hyperlipidemia. High triglycerides and high cholesterol. Heart disease takes out 50% of diabetics, way before a normal lifespan. Take the statins, live a long, adventure filled life.

Over the first 2 years since diabetes diagnosis, my doctors have reduced my medications. A year prior to diabetes diagnosis I was doing 13 prescription medications daily.

I asked each of my specialists to help me reduce my medications. Over time, each set goals for me to meet. As I met goals, medications were reduced, and some were eliminated. Presently, I am down to 3 prescription daily medications, plus my albuterol rescue inhaler to use as needed.

The other 3 are a bp medication, amlodipine 5 mg. Rosuvastatin 40 mg. Metropolol 50 mg for heart rhythm.

I work with each of my doctors. Many of the specialists have released me from care. But there was a cost. In 2021, the year that my diabetes diagnosis was confirmed, I had 101 doctors appointments. I had 2 heart surgeries and 3 hospital stays.

In 2022, I had 9, and 2 were postphoned from December 2021 to January 2022 for the moral victory of only 99 doctor visits in 2021, instead of 101.

In 2023, 10 doctors appointments. Up from the previous year, because I added a podiatrist, and a 3rd oncologist to my stable of doctors.

Good luck.

i am no expert.. but i read that statins can raise blood sugar. when i was first diagnoised they wanted me on metformin insulin with meals and long acting...I declined...only take one dose of long acting at night...that has been reduced from 20 units to 13...then they also wanted me to take blood pressure andd statins....as preventitave...I also declined....I still take the long acting...but do the rest by watching carbs...I have mostly good days and controlled....but I do have days that puzzle me when I cannot keep my bns in the range I want it at....I dont know if any of this helps....but I dont like medication....but Im sure that if I think diabetes is gaining control....I will consider more med....finding a good doctor that has time to listen and work with me...I think....is the best answer....Ive not had much luck....so I do a lot on my own....
