Treseba Side Effects

A DiabetesTeam Member asked a question 💭
Petersburg, Ontario

Hi, wondering if anyone is on Treseba (the long acting insulin) and if so did you have any "undocumented" side effects?

I have been on Treseba now for almost 6 months along with taking Rapid insulin at meals.

I am noticing that I have had to increase my before bedtime Treseba dose to more than what I was taking on 50/50 and it doesn't seem to be managing my AIC levels as well as my 50/50 insulin did.

I also have had feeling of shortness of breath at times so my Ventalin usuage has also… read more

Before Tresiba, I was on Lantus and it was not helping for my nights which were high. Tresiba modified that but only some days. With this isolation problem, I might try to give myself half my dose of rapid at the beginning of the meal and the other half one hour later. Nurse told me not to do that but it worth a try and cannot be worse. I lost very little weight since Tresiba, something like 5 pounds but it is mostly due to Ozempic. It did change my NovoRapid doses - my ratios are down at least half of what they were.

Hi Denise, thanks for your reply... Yes I totally understand your situation..I used to be able to easily go from one meal to the next without snacking....but on Treseba I feel like i am starving all the time and my pre and post meal blood sugars are worse than ever and so then I need more and more Rapid to just get me to a decent number before my next meal. Not to mention the weight gain since starting Treseba..
I haven't heard of Ozempic, I will need to look that up...

My AM sugars were better controlled when I was on 50/50..my AM sugars on Treseba are never good and so I have to keep increasing my night time Treseba dose..which just means more drugs running around in my body...
I am going to ask my doctor to put me back on 50/50..who cares if the 50/50 drug is an old regime (apparently my pharmacist got me going on Treseba because she felt that I was on an "old" drug and should move to something "newer"
Newer doesn't always mean better, does it?

Thanks again for your reply. Stay well..

Yes, I find that the professionals are sometimes nervous about trying new or different ways/ times to have us taking our meds.. I also tried taking Treseba and Rapid just before I went to bed and then I did notice an improvement in my AM sugars. The dietician was upset with this approach as she worried that I would become very low during the night, which of course didn’t happen. 🤷‍♀️
Good luck on your journey

I am on Tresiba for 6 months now, taking it every morning. I also use Novo-Rapid at meals and Ozempic. Even though at first the Ozempic made my Tresiba go down, it doesn't anymore. I never had any side effects that I could notice. The only thing I can say is that It is as if the meals make me go higher only 2 hours after I've eat. It's as if my NovoRapid act for 2 hours, not more.
