Yes, adding a banana to your morning smoothie can be beneficial, especially for people with diabetes. Here are some points to consider:

- Glycemic Index: Bananas have a low glycemic index, with ripe bananas at 51 and green bananas at 42, meaning they have a moderate impact on blood sugar levels.
- Resistant Starch: Green bananas contain resistant starch, which slows digestion and helps manage blood sugar levels.
- Nutritional Balance: Bananas are low in sodium and high in potassium, which is good for heart health and blood pressure management.
- Portion Control: Start with half a medium banana and monitor your blood glucose levels to see how it affects you.

Remember to balance your smoothie with other nutrient-rich ingredients like spinach or Greek yogurt.

Beneficial for "what"?

Banana's are a heathy fruit - lot's of vitamin B-6, Vitamin C, Potassium and Magnesium - things that we need

But a "medium banana" (about 7") is also quite high in net carbs coming in at about 24 (with a large banana closer to 28)

If eating all by itself it may be close to all the carbs you could handle without going out of range - added into a smoothie which may contain "other carbs" could make it a bit of a "blood sugar unhealthy" choice

So as always, portion size is key

Yes, loaded with vitamins and minerals but you could go overboard and jack your blood sugar numbers
