HBAIC Results Vs 2 Blood Glucose Machines
morning ranges from 70-121. It is either my two blood glucose units are defective even if it was just bought 1.5 months ago or my HBA1C is? Pls adv
Hi @A DiabetesTeam Member,
There are 2 important numbers when calculating A1Cs.
The 1st is fasting, at least 4.5-5 hours after eating.
The 2nd is 2 hour, 2 hours after beginning eating in the USA. In Britain they say 1.5 hours after beginning eating.
I will use 2 hour number.
I suspect you are trying to compare apples and oranges.
Since I average 8-9 blood glucose numbers daily and 2500 yearly, my average reflects a true A1C. I always test at 2 hours and daily include my most carb laden meal 2 hour numbers.
I suspect that your numbers are skewed because they don't reflect an even number of fasting and 2 hour numbers.
Your meters are probably good.
My calculated A1C is within 0.1 of the lab A1C.
If your average is 124, that converts into a A1C of 5.9, if you are averaging the last 90 days.
If you need more information, ask specifics and I will try to help you, as well as the kindness of others.

Have a wonderful day.
Does this help.
Also, you can always change the batteries in your meter if you are worried about them.
You're welcome. Keep asking questions.
Hi Jerrik, Henry, Ducks2Mom,
Thank you for the explanation and enlightenment. Everything is new to me, the more I read the more I get not exactly there yet - confused - but getting there. Haha. It is like the more I know the more I don't know.
But really, it's been just a short while when I joined the group, I get to learn and understand what I will be going through but with this team, I know I won't be alone. Thank you very much. Looking forward to more insights!!! Regards Paul
Since your A1C is a average of blood sugar for the last 90 day it may show different then the average your glucose meters read. It looks like you are only taking a fasting blood sugar daily but as you eat your sugars will go up and that is reflected on your A1C. Your glucose machines are working fine.
