Hi @A DiabetesTeam Member,
I am the oldest of 8. Both parents passed from diabetes complications and comorbidities 30 years ago. All my siblings were diagnosed with diabetes 10-20 years before my February 2021 diagnosis, A1C 13.5.
That means that my average blood glucose number for the previous 90 days was 341.
I was relieved when finally diagnosed. For me it wasn't a matter of if, but rather when I would be diagnosed with diabetes.
The previous 12 years, I asked my doctor to test me, because that's when I started drinking 150-250 oz of water daily. He kept telling me that I wasn't diabetic.
With my new doctor I negotiated no diabetes medications for 3 months. I had to get my A1C down to 6.1 to gain another 3 months without diabetes medications.
What I did in response to my diabetes diagnosis, my right eating lifestyle, made all the difference in the world. I chose a ultralow net carb right eating lifestyle. No sugars, no carbs. Very low carb Vegetables and protein is my daily fair.
My myriad other diagnoses are now controlled. And I am down from 13 daily maintenance prescription medications to 3, plus my albuterol rescue inhaler.
I've dropped 62 pounds and my BMI is 24.8.
I self taught myself from medical and scientific journals and studies from universities all over the world.
Correlations that I drew from these sources, others, and personal experience, drive my experiments to better understand my personal diabetes journey.
That's how I also felt NtombioxMiya. But now I am OK with it. In my family its only 2 of us who were diagnosed last year. I am 60 years old and my sister 50. We are doing things together and give each other support
